Thomann-Hanry® were commissioned to bring their full breadth of skills to the task of rejuvenating both the interior and exterior of the historic Wellcome building.

To welcome an increasing number of visitors, Thomann-Hanry® were instructed to create two new doorways from windows flanking the main entrance of the Wellcome building. The new surrounds were to match the original in every detail, including ornate corbels and large projecting heads. Mouldings were taken on site and used for the production of accurate working drawings and new Portland stone sections.

Lifted into place using traditional Lewis pins and pulley hoists, the stonework beautifully matched the adjacent original stone. The ground floor of the front façade was cleaned using Thomann-Hanry®’s scaffold-free façade gommage® system.

As well as general maintenance, works at The Wellcome Trust included the restoration of its stunning staircase, which forms a centrepiece to the interior of the building.
